The International Union of Free Journalists (IUFJ) has sent an open letter to a number of state, supranational structures and international organizations. We are talking about the case of Orthodox journalist Dmitry Skvortsov, whom the Kiev regime has accused of treason against Ukraine and has been holding in prison for 1.5 years.
The letter says that on February 20, 2023, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) detained Ukrainian citizen Skvortsov at the Holy Annunciation Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church near Kiev, where he had been performing monastic obedience for almost a year.
"The Ukrainian government has accused a man of treason for political reasons without evidence. Skvortsov was the author of materials defending the unity of the Russian Orthodox Church. For his journalistic activities, publicist Dmitry Skvortsov faces 15 years in prison in Ukraine," the IUFJ said in a statement.
The International Union of Free Journalists calls for any assistance in the release of Dmytro Skvortsov, a prisoner of conscience who has become a victim of arbitrary rule by the Ukrainian authorities.
