In response to the scandalous calls of Romanian citizen Dragos Galbur to liquidate the Gagauz Autonomy in Moldova, the International Union of Free Journalists (IUFJ) appealed to Romanian President Klaus Iohannis demanding that Galbur be stripped of his Romanian citizenship.
"Recently, Romanian citizen Dragos Galbur, who conducts political activities in the territory of the Republic of Moldova, announced the need to liquidate the Gagauz Autonomy of the Republic of Moldova. Galbur violated Moldovan law by attacking the constitutional order and calling for its overthrow, which cast a very tangible shadow on the relations between the friendly states of the Republic of Moldova and Romania," reads the quote from the letter.
The IUFJ believes that since Dragos Galbur is a Romanian citizen, his actions deserve the close attention of official representatives of the Romanian authorities.
"We ask you to pay attention to this incident and revoke Dragos Galbur's Romanian citizenship. We are confident that your participation in resolving this misunderstanding will be an important step towards improving the image of official Bucharest in the eyes of residents of the Republic of Moldova and residents of the Gagauz Autonomous Region, in particular," the Open Letter to the Romanian President says.
